What is Global Shading Day?

Celebrating Global Shading Day!

The European Solar Shading Organisation (ES-SO) created Global Shading Day every year on March 21st, to raise public and governmental awareness of the advantages that solar shading brings, in terms of human, environmental and economic gain.

Why Do You Need To Consider Solar Shading?

Increasing our shading has multiple benefits for us and the environment. Not only does it improve our overall wellbeing, but it also saves us money in the long-term and has a positive impact on the climate. As extreme heat waves become more common, we can take precautions against homes and offices becoming uncomfortably hot with effective solar shading. Additionally, adjustable shading allows us to have control over how much daylight enters the building, so we can benefit from the mood-enhancing effects of natural light while avoiding intense glares.

In the face of scorching heatwaves hitting the UK, many are desperately seeking ways to keep their residences and workplaces cool. Taking inspiration from Mediterranean countries, installing exterior shading products can help to reduce temperatures in an effective manner.

Solar shading provides economic and ecological advantages by reducing the necessity for air conditioning. Decreasing reliance on air cooling and illumination reduces energy expenditure, and air conditioning is acknowledged to add to carbon dioxide emission and intensification of greenhouse gases. Furthermore, dynamic solar shading that links to a building's control system enables maximum energy efficiency by managing heat and light effectively.

Sam Shervill, from the ES-SO marketing committee, emphasised the need for companies to come together with a unified message about the part solar shading plays in energy savings and our climate journey. He went on to point out that, although businesses may focus on the individual task of selling blinds, as a collective we have the power to increase awareness of the industry and its ability to save energy, boost comfort levels, and help protect the environment.

Top Benefits of Solar Shading
